Ford reveals the price of the Kuga and Explorer – USA has come to Sweden
Our love for big SUVs are clear as day, and during a special event Ford hosted in Netherlands, they showed what their plans were for the SUV market. And those plans were big. The Kuga, Puma and Explorer are set to come to the Swedish market very soon, where all of them will be available as some sort of hybrid.
Ford says that the Explorer and Kuga will be some of the most important models for Sweden, where the Kuga will be the big-seller. With my limited time with the Kuga I can safely say that I have strong beliefs in its success. A bigger Focus seems like a good deal and the recipe has been done before. Just look at Volkswagens Tiguan. In the beginning a bigger Golf. I just hope that Ford has done enough to differentiate the Kuga from the Focus. Anyways, the price. That was what I was going to tell you about. In sporty ST-line trim and Plug-in hybrid, the price is 436 200 SEK or 40 773 euro. That is without the government´s bonus refund system of around 3000 euro. That is a hefty sum for a Ford with Focus interior, but don’t forget that cars in the same size and with a hybrid is in no way cheap. I actually have difficulties finding a competing car with the same specs as the Kuga. Therefore I believe that Ford might have found their sweet spot.
Over to the big daddy. The Explorer. A huge car in all aspects. 457 hp of combined V6 turbo and electric power, and get this, 840 Nm of torque. Pure electric range with the latest driving cycle is said to be 44 km. The price for this colossal is 820 900 SEK or 76 732 euro. That is, a lot. I did a quick search on the big three German brands, and there is not a lot of cars that can compete in both size and price. However, the Volvo XC90 T8 is right up the Explorers alley with a very similar price tag. The Explorer evidently needs to deliver big. How the Europeans will like the huge, made for Americans, seats will be known in 2020. Big steps for Ford are to be taken, and I really hope that they did their homework with the Explorer.
