Well, this is quite something. Not too long ago, the 2021 Supra was released with a new four cylinder version, and an upgraded six cylinder engine. All well said and done. However, it seems that there will be a special GRMN Supra, which means that it will be a super exclusive performance version. The Yaris got the GRMN treatment, and as I said in my review of the 2020 Supra, it would make sense to do the same to the Supra. Guess I was right. However, the car won’t be powered by a Toyota derived engine. Instead, Toyota has had a look in BMWs M parts catalogue.

The famous B58 straight six cylinder engine which for the 2021 model year produces 380 hp, with real world tests showing 440 hp at the engine, is replaced by its big brother, the S58, which is the performance version of the B58. It will also find its way in the new M3. This means that the power is now a staggering 520 hp and 608 Nm. These numbers are actually higher than any of BMWs current models with the same engine. Therefore, it is safe to say that even in this case, Toyota has done some major fine tuning. To handle all this power, the gearbox is now a seven speed from BMWs M-division.

The car is planned to see the light in 2023 and no further information has been given, but by looking at the current GR Supra and the upcoming GRMN Supra, it would be safe to say that the GRMN will have a price of around 90 k Euro. There is no question that bigger tires and a stiffened chassis is needed, but how Toyota will make a short wheel-based car with over 500 hp behave, we have to wait and see.
