You can even get it as a diesel! I am not joking. If you want to, you can have a sporty 190 horsepower diesel. That is however not new, the old model had that choice too. What is new then? Well that’s what I am here to figure out.

Let’s start with the engine, which in the petrol version is the same as in the Focus RS, though tuned down a bit. A huge 2.3 L four banger with 280 horsepower, 420 newtonmeter of torque is what will be found in the new Focus ST. If you want the cracks and bangs, that will not be a problem, cause it will come as standard with antilag.

Power is still sent through the front wheels, but the bigger power is now managed through an electrical differential together with a six speed manual, which comes as standard! Or an optional seven speed automatic gearbox. The suspension is fine tuned to handle all sorts of driving styles. It is now possible to change driving modes to suit your needs. One of these is track which hints that this car will be quite a piece.

Further details such as Recaro seats, bigger brakes and “slightly” more aggressive exterior can also be found on the new ST, where the brakes are part of the performance pack.

If all this sounds familiar it is because it is. The Huyndai i30 N seems to be the benchmark that Ford is trying to beat. The Renault Megane RS is also a direct opponent with almost the exact power. If the Ford will be the one to buy it must have an attractive price, which will be unveiled in late march and the sale in the summer.
